Morning Routines That Give Us The Boost We Need

May 28, 2020 by Monica Nelson Leave a Comment

We all know that the mornings can be difficult depending on what we have done the day before. It’s not always easy to get out of bed and be positive every single day. But there are some things that we can do that help put us in a positive mood, and set us up for the day in a great way. Mostly mindset is what can let us down when it comes to the mornings, and you will often hear many of us say “I’m not a morning person“. But we can all become a “morning person“ if we change some things, create a good routine, and do things that we know will benefit us. Here are a few ideas from people who regularly start their day on a positive note, and hopefully you can take some inspiration from it!

Nutrition

One of the things that most people find important about the morning is the breakfast that you have. And a lot of people add coffee such as Bones coffee to their routine to help give a boost of caffeine. The type of food that you have will of course nourish you throughout the day, so good decisions are essential. Adding a few handfuls of berries into a smoothie, or even just topping your toast with some banana and honey, can give you the natural sugar that you need to start your breakfast for the day. It’s always good to remember that hydration is essential when it comes to feeling healthy, so ensuring you have plenty of water included in this routine will start you off in the right way. Many cultures start the day by drinking a cold glass of water with a slice of lemon every single day, and this has been shown to have a detoxing effect and positive Results for those that do this. It doesn’t always have to be smoothie making and fruit, but just taking care of yourself in the best way that you can with nutrition, every single day, will have good effects over time. Your body clock will also thank you for having a regular and healthy meal.

Meditation

Meditation every morning can be life-changing for some, if you have never meditated before there are plenty of resources online, blogs, podcasts, and guided meditation videos that you can watch and learn from quickly. Meditation in all its forms can be beneficial for the body and mind. Just taking a moment to relax and reconnect with your thought processes, and clear your mind as much as possible, has been shown to have a significant impact on our mental health. The positive way in which meditation benefits us is undeniable, and we only need to apply a little time and effort into our meditation practice to reap the benefits. The research on meditation is vast, and even mainstream doctors are recommending it as a form of stress relief for mental health issues. Not only does meditation help by cleaning her mind, but it can also improve our thought processes during the day, and ensure that we are doing our absolute best with our day started on a fresh note.

Exercise

Many successful people exercise in the morning before they start their day. Especially those who partake in sports or activities that require physical well-being. Not only that but exercise every morning gets the blood pumping, keeps the mind shop, and of course improve your overall physical health. Once we know the type of exercise that we enjoy, and that we would like to ensure we maintain our health and well-being, it’s just a case of putting a timeslot aside for it every day, and motivating ourselves. Which can sound easier said than done, but habits form whether we like it or not, and if we ensure that we are following our own path, setting our own goals, and working hard towards them, then we find that our days start much easier and quicker, with more productivity and we could imagine when we start the day with some healthy endorphins and movement.

Clearing a space

Whether you work from home or I’ll just looking for a space to carry out an activity, getting up early in the morning and clearing the space ready for the day is important. It helps you start afresh and can ensure that you have a boost in your creativity and productivity levels. You can extend this to cleaning as well, and many people get all of their cleaning chores out of the way before they start their day, but you know your routine best, and prioritizing Clearing a space and ensuring that you are comfortable within your environment, means that you are much better prepared for the day. This can be a wonderful boost to your morning and can make a huge difference to your energy levels.

Enjoy quiet

Depending on where you live and who you live with, early mornings tend to be quiet, so it’s good to have a little time out every morning in the quiet, to wake yourself up and prepare for the busy day ahead. Many people report this to be their favorite time of the day, and before any children awake, or pets start running around, we can take a moment to reflect and plan our day. Sitting with a cup of coffee some fruit and maybe even a glass of lemon water, whilst watching the early morning birds, can do wonders for your mindset and set you up for a fantastic day ahead. What else could we need? It’s important that we take care of ourselves, and your morning routine are certainly ways to improve our overall start to the day.
Hopefully, these tips can help you come up with a plan for a brilliant morning or around, and you will find yourself falling into a positive and healthy routine along the way, maybe even some good habits that you didn’t even know were possible? Either way self-care at any time of the day but especially the morning can be the boost you need.

You can also use this same coconut cream again and just serve with your favorite fresh berries all season long! Enjoy.

GRILLED PINEAPPLE WITH COCONUT CREAM
🍍🍍🍍

INGREDIENTS

For the Marinade:
• 1 tbs coconut oil (can also use olive)
• 1 tsp  ground cinnamon
• 2 1/2 tbs dark honey
• 1 vanilla bean (can be optional – but I love it here)
• 1 tbs of fresh lime juice
• 1 firm yet ripe pineapple, can buy already cut
For Garnish (Optional):
• 1 tbs dark rum
• 1 tbs grated lime zest from the lime
My Coconut Cream:
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1/2 cup cream of coconut (such as Coco Lopez)

DIRECTIONS

Marinade:
1. In a large bowl – combine the oil, cinnamon, honey, vanilla bean (if using), and lime juice; whisk to well to blend together. Set aside.
2. Place each pineapple half cut-side down and cut it lengthwise into four long wedges; slice away the core. NOTE: Or you can slice it in rings too, which I do often.
3. Place the pineapple in the bowl with the marinade and stir to coat the pineapple. Heat up the grill.
4. Place on the grill and cook about 3 to 4 mins. You can baste once or twice with the remaining marinade. Turn the fruit and move it to a cooler part of the grill or reduce the heat. Baste again with the marinade. Grill until the pineapple is tender and golden, about 3 more mins.
5. Remove the pineapple from the grill and place on a platter. Next, brush with the rum – if using. Last, sprinkle with the lime zest. Serve hot or warm!

For the Coconut Cream:
1. With an electric mixer, beat the heavy cream and cream of coconut until soft peaks form. TIP: You can also use this same cream again and just serve with your favorite fresh berries all season long.

So perfect for a summer treat with friends. Enjoy!
Let’s make my GREEN ME UP smoothie! I’ve been Let’s make my GREEN ME UP smoothie! I’ve been making this smoothie or a variation of it for the past 13-14 yrs, heck before there was TikTok. 😂 Such a delicious way to pack in some serious nutrition and those GREENS.

Smoothies are an incredible tool to your wellbeing. They are super easy, versatile, and gosh dang - delicious and healthy. (If made correctly). That’s why I’m all about getting my clients on the smoothie train - if they’re up for it. 😉

Just love providing clients with dozens of smoothie recipes I’ve created packed with protein and fiber, including healthy fats that keep you full 3-5 hrs easily. No matter what season of life I’ve been in personally: serious training, fitness modeling, both pregnancies/postpartum/nursing, healing, and now being a busy mom feeding our kids smoothies each morning, smoothies have been an essential piece.

This is a loose recipe so you can add anything else you want. Just make sure you have your protein source, your favorite veggies (hello phytonutrients), fiber sources and healthy fat.

** Tip: put all the ingredients (EXCEPT the liquid) in the blender the night before! This tip has helped for years.

🥬GREEN ME UP SMOOTHIE🥬

• Handful of organic greens
• 1-2 cups organic celery (vitamins A, K, C, hydrating, supports digestion)
• 1/2 cup frozen cauliflower rice (makes it thick, extra fiber)
• 1 Brazil nut (gives daily selenium, which is important for fertility)
• 1/4 of an avocado
• 1/4 cup wild blueberries
• 1 tsp organic spirulina @nowfoodsofficial
• 1/4-1/2 ceylon cinnamon (helps regulate blood sugar, antioxidant)
• 1 scoop @paleovalley bone broth powder
• 1 scoop whey - I like isolate and @nowfoodsofficial has a good one
• Creatine @nowfoodsofficial (fav supplement for 10+ yrs)
• 6-8 oz of unsweetened almond or coconut milk
• 1 scoop of @beeyawellness for topping, optional

Other options I rotate in: ginger root, basil & chia seeds, psyllium husk powder, lemon (vitamin C), herbs like cilantro & mint, dandelion greens (great source of vitamin K).

1. Place everything in a HIGH-speed blender (yes this is important. Otherwise you’ll get salad texture). Blend for about 1 min. Enjoy!

Recently Asher rushed home from school and said “I’m working out for 10 mins to get strong.” Followed by “then I can break free from all the hugs.” We learned that apparently 3 girls at recess hug Asher nonstop and he wants to get strong to “get away from all the girls.” 😳 Never a dull moment.
