If you have lost a loved one, then you will know how devastating this can be. You may feel as though life is never going to be the same and you just don’t know how you are going to get through the next few months. This is understandable, and loss can be a very difficult thing to go through. That being said, there are things that you can do to try and help yourself. Simply take a look below to find out more.
Let your Emotions be Expressed
It’s so important that you let your emotions be expressed. You want them to be released. If you feel as though a good cry is what you need because you feel one coming on, then don’t worry about it. If you find a certain song triggering for you because it brings back painful memories, then don’t turn it off. Work through it and know that what you are feeling is completely normal. Everything will become easier, but if you shut off your emotions, this will really stop you from being able to process things. If you have lost a pet, then it may be a good idea for you to look into pet urns, as it’s one of the best ways for you to treasure the memories you had of your pet.
Talk about It
Talk about whatever it is you’re feeling when you feel ready. Some people find that telling the story of their loss helps. Others don’t like to talk about it, and that is fine as well. You should not feel pressured to talk, but if you think that it would help you then don’t be afraid to let it all out. If you are not able to talk about the way that you are feeling, then this is fine as well. Find other ways to try and express your thoughts and your emotions. Start by writing a journal and jot down all of the precious memories that you have. Write a song, or even a poem if you would find this easier. You can do it privately or you can do it with others.
Preserve your Memories
Preserving memories is so important. Try and create a memorial or a tribute to the person who has passed by planting a tree, or you can even create a space in the garden. Either way, if you can show tribute to that person in a fitting way, then this will help you to deal with your grief. Other people find it easier to do charity walks or even runs in honour of that person, so try and do things like this if you can. It will help you far more than you realise.
Make a Memory Box
Make a memory box or even a folder. This will remind you about the person who has died. You might want to include mementos, photos or even quotes. You may also want to thank your family for being part of your life. If you can take the time to appreciate who you have now, this will help you to stay more focused on the present.
