Have you ever wondered why some dieters succeed and others fail? In truth, it has nothing to do with the type of diet they are on. Instead, it has a lot to do with other factors in their lives.
In this post, we take a look at some of the surprising reasons dieters succeed. Here’s what you need to know.
They Have A Diet-Friendly Job
When the lockdowns arrived in March 2020, many people suddenly found it much easier to go on a diet. Staying at home all day long gave them much more control over what they could eat. It revealed to many people that there is such a thing as a diet-friendly job.
Unfortunately, workplaces can be food deserts. That is, they don’t offer any healthy grub on-site. Worse still, colleagues may pressure you to go out for unhealthy meals or eat things that you otherwise wouldn’t normally choose, just to fit in. This can make going on a diet even more challenging.
They Live In A Health-Promoting Area
Secondly, some dieters are more likely to succeed because they live in a health-promoting area and have access to good food. For instance, they might live close to a farmer’s market selling fresh fruit and veggies at discount prices.
Dieters are more likely to fail if they don’t have access to fresh groceries. Residents of some inner city areas may have severely limited food choices.
They Have Family Members Who Are Worried About Their Health
When family members are worried about a dieter’s health, it acts as an extra incentive for them to change their ways. They are much more likely to make significant changes to what they eat when they see the genuine concerns in their loved one’s eyes. Older people with heart or liver conditions can often radically turn their health around because of this pressure.
The same is not true, though, of young dieters who are doing it for purely cosmetic reasons. Any pressure they experience comes entirely from themselves.
They Change The Quality Of Their Diet
Doctors typically prescribe patients “fewer calories.” But as most people know from bitter experience, this approach never works. It’s impossible to deny your body the energy it needs long-term by simply controlling portions. Literally no one can do it.
The key here is to recognize that what matters isn’t the energy in the diet, but the quality. While calories are a real physical concept, how they manifest changes depending on the type of food you eat.
Let’s say that you’re considering an egg roll recipe. Eating high quality food like this will dramatically increase your chances of success compared to, say, eating a pizza.
The reason for this is that an egg roll provides you with important protein to keep you full. If you eat more of the right types of food, your body automatically starts regulating calories for you. Your weight returns to baseline and, all of a sudden, you feel significantly more able to take control of what you are putting in your mouth. It’s not a constant battle.
