Take Your Grilling Game To The Next Level With These Tips
From the struggle of tenderizing tough cuts to the frustration of food sticking to the grates, grilling can be a struggle sometimes. Unfortunately, every tiny mistake can affect the quality of your outcome, whether you’re working on something as simple as grilled vegetables or a bit more complicated like grilled pork. So, if you’re tired of your grilled food turning out embarrassingly bad, use the following tips to take your grilling game to the next level.
Let your grill warm up first before adding the food
While an open flame is already hot, it takes time to warm up the grates, walls, and grill lid enough to start cooking your food. So, before you put anything on your grill, let it warm up first for about 15 minutes, regardless of what you want to grill. Placing your food on the grill immediately after lighting it will cause your food’s temperature to drop. That means that you’ll not be cooking your food at the right temperature, which will affect the outcome.
Take the chill off
While you’re waiting for your grill to warm up, let your chicken pieces, steak, ribs, pork chops, etc., come to room temperature before you start grilling them. Doing this is especially important if you leave your meat to marinate overnight. When you put cold meat or food directly in a grill, you risk the outside getting burned before the inside even begins to cook.
No grill, no problem
If you don’t have a grill, a great technique you can mimic requires using your very own oven – that is, if you have one. You can try thinking of your oven’s broiler as some grill turned upside down. Using your oven properly can create caramelized and tempting foods, almost similar to using an outside grill.
While the oven uses direct heat to char and cooks things quickly, it can give you the perfect grilling experience when used for certain recipes. For example, when making a Chinese BBQ pork, broiling it in an oven will give you that caramelized and crispy outer edges almost everybody loves.
Add a hint of wood flavoring
There’s no need to spend too much time slow-smoking your meat to get it perfectly smoked – not when you can add just a hint of wood flavoring to your grill. Soak a few wood chips in water. Place the soaked wood chips on them after getting your grill’s coals red, hot, and ready to grill. The smoke will engulf your food with a bold flavor.
Don’t skimp on the seasoning
Probably needless to say, but proper seasoning makes a world of wonders, and you want to go as all-in as possible without doing too much. Contrary to what rookies think, the grilling process alone doesn’t change the taste of the food. From marinades and brines to dry rubs, you need to add high-quality seasoning to your food with an extra touch of various herbs and spices to send tongues wagging.
